Beaten 6-5 in Toronto Saturday, Montreal will not dispute the final phases of the season.

Cristobal made 29 saves on 35 shots against the Maple Leafs. He allowed 2 goals in each period in his first full game in net after surgery. It is good to have him back! Michael Ryder had a hat trick when he scored three goals in the second period. Christopher Higgins scored a goal in both the first and second periods. The season is over for the Canadiens, who failed to clinch a spot in the playoffs. The two best teams of the regular season were Detroit Red Wings in the East, and Buffalo Sabres in the west.

Carolina, last year’s winner , and Edmonton, finalist, missed the qualification for the phases finales 2007, at the end of the regular season which was completed Sunday. In the conference, Carolina Hurricanes finished 11th at 4 points of the last one qualified, the New York Islanders. In the East, Edmonton missed its season.

Montreal, which holds the record of victories in the Cut Stanley (24), is also on holiday with a 10th place. The Canadians carried out one season in half-tone and lost their “Frenchie” amulet, Cristobal Huet, wounded at the worst time and he returned only for the match in Toronto, where they lost by 6-5.

On 14 February Cristobal suffered a injury in the match against the Devils of New Jersey and had to undergo a surgical operation in the following days to recover the muscles torn up the back of his left thigh.
