The Welsh born athlete was discovered by a coach twelve years ago and has never looked back since. He also ahs a impressive track record of the follwoing wins on the track,

As you may have noticed by money, sexy groupies and power can definitely go to anyone’s head and here is a list of the unfortunates who have managed to hit the headlines for reasons other than their sports prowess,
- NHL player Todd Bertuzzi brutally and intentionally slashes opposing player Steve Moore, resulting in a destroyed career, a broken neck, a concussion and numerous fractures. Todd was suspended for the rest of the year as well as had police criminal chrges filed against him by the police. I think he got of pretty lightly. Some one should have thrashed him well and good to show him what it feels like!
- At the 1919 World Series, a few members of the Chicago baseball team were suspended for a lifetime as they were accused of payment to throw matches.
- In 1984,Figure skater Tonya Harding’s ex-husband hired a thug to break fellow figure skater Nancy Kerrigan’s legs. Kerrigan withdrew, and Tonya won that years US figure skating event although she always maintained her innocence. In that years Olympics, Nancy Kerrigan came in second while Tonya landed a dismal eighth.
- Salt lake city and its bid for the international Olympics became literally infamous. After facing constant disappointment in its bid to host the Olympics; the city decide it’s time to play dirty.A whole range of perks landed up in the International Olympic Committee’s laps ranging from plastic surgery expenses, scholarships, free ski vacations to even bulk local jobs.Salt Lake City finally got its first Olympic Games. But when the first judge, Marc Hodler got hit with a pang of conscience and accepted that he had taken bribes bribes, heads began to roll.Almost the entire committee was given it walking papers but Salt lake city still got its Olympics.

India’s first ranked tennis player mired in sex-MMS controversy

Sania Mirza is currently India’s only hope for winning any type of international womens tennis tournament in the near future.
She started her career by being coached by her father Imran Mirza, at the age of six, turning professional in 2003. She is the highest ranked female tennis player ever to originate from India, with a career high ranking of 27 in singles tournaments and 18 in doubles tournaments.Since her stunning success, enrollments of girls in tennis academies and schools has risen dramatically in India;a country which is still rather patriarchally run.
But along with the fame has come tremendous public scrutiny.A Muslim cleric issued a fatwa banning her use of short skirts while playing matches(silly man!)Being the intelligent, educated, and opinionated young women she is,Sania once also passed a few comments on sex before marriage( a highly taboo topic in India and she kinda defended it). This resulted in an inane media brouhaha which resonated for a few months .
Last month, Indian police registered a case of trespass for filming an ad movie in a local mosque in Hyderabad. And the current scandal which has hit the Internet is of a model supposed to be Sania having sex or undressing;I ‘m not very sure.Although the tennis superstar has been mum through all the silly gossip, there must be a time when it get wearing on the soul for the 19-year-old prodigy.
But Que Sera Sera!
What does have “sledging” to do with cricket?

Anyone with the remotest interest in cricket , will now be aware of the sledging controversy which has slam-banged into the ongoing Indian cricket tour of Australia.
Indian ace cricketer,Harbhajan Singh was accused mid-match of calling Australian veteran mixed-race player Andrew Symonds a “monkey”.The Indians have not been far behind in vigorously counter-claiming that the Australian bowler Brad Hogg called the Indian captain Kumble and Vice captain Mahendra Dhoni, “bastards”while batting. Accusations were still flying right, left, and center when the International Cricket Committee took the controversial but dramatic step of implementing a three-match ban on Harbhajan Singh for “racial abuse.”
The situation exponentially worsened with India which happens to fanatically follow cricket reacted with vociferous protests and demonstrations. The high-scale histrionics’s have become shriller by the second with both sides admitting they said what they said, but claiming extenuating circumstances. The Indian logic being “monkey” is not really insulting in their culture and they worship Hanuman who is a monkey god, while the Australians state that bastard is not really offensive in their culture; its just something they say!
But to be really fair ; the Australians and New Zealanders consider the sledging or the practice of insulting opponents and their close families a great and acceptable method of breaking concentration. But many people are seriously considering the impact this recent ban will have on Australian tourism.
Why? What does cricket have to do with tourism? If you were following international news , you’ll have realized that it was only just recently that an Indian Doctor,Mohammed Haneef working in Australia was unjustly accused and-imprisoned for quite a few months on charges of aiding and abetting terrorism. Although the charges were eventually rescinded, there is definitely a lingering pool of suspicion towards Australia in the Indian mind!
Yet more weird sports!

I did write a post a few days back regarding weird sports and now it seems I’ve found more.I mean what is it with people how can you have so much time to find and invent a sport which is so totally worthless. Any way thats just my opinion and take a look for yourself and let me know what you think.
Bog snorkeling competitors have the wonderfully pongy option of snorkeling through stinky, dirty muddy mud water for two times of a 60-yard trench which is cut through a peat bog. The snorkeler with the least time obviously wins
Blokarting, a sport in which you sail on land!
Camel wrestling is weird and faintly kinky spectator sport in which two male camels are enthused to wrestle dominance over each other for female camel in heat.
Weird, weird and weird, but thats just life!
Weird sports of the century!

Sports are good for you!And some are really funny as well as weird. I sometimes wonder how much time the inventors of these games have on their hands to be able to come up such weird and wonderful new sports.
Here are a few of the funniest and weirdest sports I’ve ever seen
- Wife carrying competition where the studly male participants have to run through an obstacle course carrying the weight of a woman preferably the woman should be your wife. But it isn’t really necessary to be married. You can borrow someone else as long as they are older than 17 and weights 49 kilos or more. Dropping the wife during the race incurs a 15-second time penalty and winning the race means the wife’s weight in beer.
- In Glouchester, England, the annual cheese rolling competition involves participants chasing down a steep hill in pursuit of an 8 lb. fromage. The event was stopped when a hunk of cheese bashed a spectators head in and he went rolling down the hill for about ten feet before he collapsed unconscious.
- Gurning participation involves a rare hilarious sport of contorting your face into the ugliest face possible. Ugliness is a definite advantage but two-year olds make a credible copy when you force milk down their throats.

Weird sports!

Athletics and sports are really an important part of life to increase stamina , health and reduce flab. But how about a totally weird group of sports which have no real benefit and are really funny to see. Here’s my list of a few really dumb sports for geeks,
- A championship which takes place in a pub!Hmmm! sounds really great right! The 2006 British and World Marbles Championship was held in London and the Germans won and the British lost their marbles….Like we care!
- 23rd annual World Pooh sticking Championship Race in Oxfordshire, England was won by the Japanese again. Pooh Stick racing consists of dropping a stick in to a river, and then seeing how long it takes to get to the finish line. Looks like the British lost their marbles a swell as their sticks!!
- Sheep “wrangling” is the training for new Zealand rugby players, in which they are supposed to tackle a smelly sheep scuttling around the paddock. This is far more information then I want to know about rugby.
- Chessboxing, the height of pointless. It’s where opponents play alternate rounds of boxing and chess.
- And how about cricket which is pretty pointless too.I mean how many people do you need to catch a single ball?

The business of sports

Sports is going to get preeeety expensive to the fans who come to watch the game very very soon!
How! Imagine shelling out a hefty five bucks per hot dog? Buying peanuts and cracker jacks at the local vendor will cost you as much as going to the restaurant for dinner. Sounds funny right! But check out the business of sports and sports concessions.
Professional baseball players have always complained that the food and drink inside the stadium has been at a premium. And the prices are going to increase!
The major stadium food concession expert, Aramark successfully negotiated a 10-year partnership with the Pittsburgh Penguins, who have a new stadium opening in 2010. Aramark has also secured a 30-year contract with the New York Mets last June for Citifield, which opens in April 2009. Aramark now controls over 40 professional sports clients. But is that making the stadium food any cheaper ?
Capital investment burdens, product and labor costs, tax and commissions, the weather, opponents, team strength, crowd size, time and length of game can all cut into the concessions profits forcing them to hike prices to make a decent profit.
And with stadium maintenance charges, parking fees, as well as players fees increasing exponentially , you could see a drastic jump in the price of your hot dog!

On Tuesday night Coach Pat Summitt won her seventh national title in women’s college basketball and first since 1998 with a 59-46 victory over Rutgers on Tuesday. In 33 seasons she gained 947 wons for Tennessee, 58 more than Bob knight of Texas Tech.At the age of 54, Summit is three titles away of matching John Wooden’ s 10 titles through his career. Wooden’s 1960’s and 1970’s U.C.L.A. teams were at his peak.
Lady Vols dominated the offensive and beat Rutgers in their own court. Tennessee’s defense was outstanding, forcing the Rutgers to gain 18 turnovers.
Candace Parker, Tennessee’s 6-foot-4 forward, scored 17 points, dished off 3 assists, grabbed 7 rebounds in addition to that she was named the Final Four’s most outstanding player.
“You are witnessing the best player in the world,†Rutgers Coach C. Vivian Stringer said referring to Parker.
“There is nobody who comes close to her.â€
The start wasn’t so sparkling for the Lady Vols but they simply exploded all of a sudden, closing the first half with a 17-6 run to take a 29-18 lead.
“This is not about me winning No. 7; this is about this team winning their first,†Summitt sincerely said.
That means respect and love for what she does and for the girls she trains.
The Lady Vols are a powerful team because of their talented players and their team spirit as well.Â

On top of that Ryan Sheckler is going to be a presenter at this year’s Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards and introduce to the stage along with Chris Brown, the well known Gwen Stefani and Akon. Besides his career Ryan is chased by teenage girls constantly. At only 17-years old this boy from San Clemente has a sponsor list as long as an football field.Although he grew up in a big surf town he doesn’t surf that much, concentrating only at skateboarding.
His plans for the future are to date Jessica Alba and to skate a lot.
